Alois Dallmayr is Munich's finest food shop. Treat yourself to some German delicacies here.
KARSTADT (Neuhauserstr. 18, PHONE: 089/290-230), in the 100-year-old Haus Oberpollinger, at the start of the Kaufingerstrasse shopping mall, is another upscale department store, with a very wide range of Bavarian arts and crafts

This is one of Munich's specialty delicatessen and food shops, but not as chi-chi as Alois Dallmayr.
Karstadt

This department store runs a close second to Karstadt and tends to carry the same type of merchandise.

If you are need of any essentials, this is the place. It is Munich's largest department store. They have a second location at Karlsplatz (Stachus) 21-24.

This is the Dean and Deluca of office and art supplies and paper. This place will have everything you've ever wanted, but what they want in return is all you've ever earned!
Kustermann

This is a kitchen, bathroom, and household item haven, but watch it--this place, while it has the absolute best of everything, is not at all cheap. So when you fall in love with something, expect the price tag to read three times what you thought!

Buy traditional lederhosen, dirndl, and other Bavariawear at this shop, the spot for Bavarian clothes.

If you're looking for upscale items, this is one step up from a department store. It could be considered the Harrod's of Munich.
Maximilianstrasse
The city's most exclusive shopping, if you've got the green, is in the boutiques and shops of Maximilianstrasse, Munich's poshest street. This is a boulevard dotted with painfully expensive shops, cafes, bistros, and hotels, and lined with double-parked BMWs, Ferraris, Rolls, Jaguars, limos, and the occasional "paupers'" Saab.
Viktualienmarkt
A five-minute stroll from Marienplatz is the city's best-stocked daily outdoor market, the Viktualienmarkt, with a cornucopia of exquisite foodstuffs from Germany and the rest of Europe. Get snacks at some of the stands, and browse the market for the absolute finest in fish, meat and poultry, olives, pickles, and the world's best cheeses and wines. Stop here and there for some fresh-squeezed fruit juices or, if you like, a beer or schnapps.
